The Challenge
Our client required external cleaning works to the white exoskeleton of the Trade View stands. Over time, the structure had accumulated a significant build-up of organic growth, dirt, and pollution, causing visible discolouration and potentially obscuring areas requiring inspection.
The contamination needed to be removed not only to restore the appearance of the structure but to allow a full assessment of its integrity and prepare the surface for any subsequent repairs or painting. Due to the height and complex geometry of the exoskeleton, a combination of specialist access methods was required to safely reach all areas.
Our Solution
Steel Peaks deployed a team of IRATA-qualified rope access technicians alongside a MEWP to access the full extent of the exoskeleton efficiently and safely. This hybrid approach allowed us to deliver comprehensive external steam cleaning services while optimising access methods for different areas of the complex structure.
Using high-temperature, low-pressure steam equipment, the team were able to kill organic growth and remove pollution deposits without damaging the surface coating. This thorough cleaning process not only restored the structure's appearance but also provided proper surface preparation for any future repainting works, ensuring optimal adhesion and longevity of protective coatings.
All works were scheduled and completed during the off-season to ensure there was no impact on the operation of the stadium during active periods. Rope access allowed technicians to reach difficult areas with minimal disruption, while the MEWP provided additional safe access where practical.
