Project Type: LED Lighting Installation | Location: New Street Square, London | Service: Rope Access Building Maintenance

The Challenge

Our client had recently completed a full renovation of their offices in New Street Square, London, which included upgrading the main glass atrium. As part of the refurbishment, a new LED lighting system was specified to enhance both the visual impact of the space and the building's energy efficiency.

Due to the height, geometry, and fragile nature of the atrium's glass structure, traditional access methods such as scaffolding or MEWPs were either not feasible or would have caused significant disruption to the newly refurbished workspace. The client required a solution that allowed the lighting installation to be completed safely, efficiently, and without impacting ongoing office operations.

Our Solution

Steel Peaks provided a team of IRATA-qualified rope access technicians to carry out the installation of the new LED lighting system across the atrium glazing. This project demonstrates our expertise in delivering specialist building maintenance services for complex commercial environments where traditional access methods prove impractical.

Following a detailed pre-installation site assessment, our team used temporary deadweight anchor systems positioned on the safe loading points of the roof. This approach allowed our technicians to access all areas of the atrium without intrusive equipment or disruption to staff below. The installation was completed over a series of planned weekend visits, coordinated with the client to ensure minimal impact on building users.

All works were delivered under a site-specific rescue plan, with strict adherence to the building's operational procedures and safety requirements. The LED system was fully installed, secured, and tested, providing the client with a modern, energy-efficient lighting upgrade completed without compromise to safety, aesthetics, or business continuity.

Project Outcome

  • Zero disruption to office operations during installation
  • Weekend completion coordinated around client schedule
  • Full LED system installation across complex atrium geometry
  • Enhanced energy efficiency and visual impact delivered
  • Safe working methods protecting fragile glass structure

Why Rope Access for Lighting Installation?

This project showcases the advantages of rope access for electrical installations in complex spaces. Traditional scaffolding would have required weeks of erection time, significant workspace disruption, and posed risks to the newly installed glass atrium. MEWPs were impractical due to floor loading restrictions and geometric constraints.

As an IRATA-certified rope access contractor, Steel Peaks delivered a solution that was faster, safer, and more cost-effective than conventional access methods. Our approach allowed the client to maintain full building operations while achieving their lighting upgrade objectives.

Related Services

In addition to lighting installations, Steel Peaks provides comprehensive rope access services for commercial buildings including facade maintenance, electrical installations, mechanical system access, and ongoing maintenance programmes. Our IRATA-certified technicians are experienced in working within occupied buildings, delivering projects with minimal disruption to business operations.
